Unity Tutorial 02

Image
This task was very difficult but also very rewarding. I got on very well with the first section of this task. Adding the finishing touches to the small car game was very intriguing. Changing the speed of the vehicle was something I found very cool. It was also very fun to play-test the game. Whilst completing the first section of the Unity task was relatively easy it was the second section which I experienced much greater difficulty with. The second part of the task involved making a plane game work easily, the desired result for the Unity work was shown in a video. Our task was to make this game work exactly as shown in the example video This involved making a plane move, without the assistance of videos or instructions. Therefore we essentially had to create most of the game code from scratch. C# Scripts Source:  Flickr I also have difficulty with the C# Scripts, specifically naming them and placing them in the right spot. Fortunately I was able to sort these out and everything turne

Game Brainstorm

There are many possible games that I could make for the project  One game that I believe could make for an interesting experience is A dungeon crawler type game, This would be one that has the player endure a dark and grim fantasy dungeon. The dungeon would have a specific aesthetic, whilst there would stone walls, jail cells and perhaps a portcullis and a drawbridge there would also be hints that this dungeon has some sort of magical power which the player must fend off but can see occasionally. Whilst in this vile pit the player would need to fight various horrid monsters, these could include ogres, goblins, orcs, dragons, hellhounds, demons, giant insects and skeleton warriors. In truth any creature from any and all myths and legends could find their way into this dungeon, there could even be a level with a sea monster which has been trapped underwater and now feeds on whatever adventurers it can catch. Perhaps each and every single one of these evil creatures were once humans just

Feedback Thoughts

Image
Feedback is extremely important, not just for a better product but in order to grow as a human being. However it is a strange situation when your most harsh critic is actually yourself. To this day I find that the person who always whispers in the back of my ear that I can't do it is actually myself. Self-doubt is in my mind something that can easily destroy a human being and keep them from reaching their full potential. Feedback Source:  Flickr I found this quote to be very good in describing how I have sometimes felt. "Sometimes I feel like a spider whose web is repeatedly torn down. I plan something and start taking action. Then life happens, and setbacks threaten to sap my energy and enthusiasm." Countless times I have thought of doing something yet I always give up believing I am simply not up for the task. This is something that I need to change about myself. Hopefully now that I have entered college I will become a softer critic.

Unity Tutorial 01

Image
Working on Unity proved to be a very unique experience. At first, I had a great deal of difficulty downloading Unity. I was unsure about which version to download and had difficulty using Unity-Hub. At one point I had multiple downloads of Unity. This is something I will seek to remedy when I am on the college campus next. It took numerous attempts but eventually I was able to get it. Beginning Unity proved difficult as I had named my files wrong. Fortunately, once I got into the swing of it I caught the hang of it very quickly, I must commend Unity for the fact that its software is easy to learn and master. Coding Source:  Flickr At first, I was very troubled using Visual Studio Code. Although I had it downloaded for some reason Unity kept opening a different app called Brackets instead, at first, I was very alarmed but fortunately a brief google search saved me and I was able to easily remedy the problem. I felt elated when I had finally finished the tutorials and felt so happy to ha

Game Design

I found the essays from the links to be very helpful. My personal favourite was  Four Basic Methods for Generating Ideas . I believe that this essay contains fantastic tips, it also goes through many tips that most people have heard of but goes into depth on them and why they work. One of these tips was brainstorming, in the essay it explains that there should be two large groups with various separate stages that will benefit productivity and the creative process. Some of these stages were, statement of the task, generation of ideas, scamper, combine, modify and eliminate. Brainstorming Source:  Flickr The essay also contained a marvellous sentence about how human beings can generate new ideas.  " He put forward the assumption that thinking in a stationary atmosphere a person will always come to the same ideas, but being in a changing atmosphere, a person will generate different ideas." I strongly identify with this quote and wholeheartedly support it, I find that I will ha

Time Strategies

Image
It is undeniable that an organised schedule is vital to longterm success. I haven't been very good at following schedules in the past but for this year a timetable is essential, not just for this module but for the entire course. Some of the ways which I can better organise my time are by having a detailed schedule of work I need to do and when to do it and give what I'm working on at that moment all my attention.  Timetable Source: Flickr Two articles which I found very helpful were  How to Beat Procrastination  by Caroline Webb 3 Steps to Recapture Time  by Joynicole Martinez I felt these articles contained great tips & tricks on time strategies & defeating my arch-nemesis, Procrastination.

What I hope I will achieve in Technology this year

Image
I am already familiar with bookmarking as throughout the years I have bookmarked countless websites, in fact last summer I spent a great deal of time removing obsolete bookmarks. Whilst last year I had a blog I only used it for uploading images, having a for writing and various other purposes is very different from previous classes. One thing that I'm very excited for and hope to become very good at is creating my own graphics. My thoughts on the Assignments for this course

Image
For this course one of the assignments I am very excited for is the Unity3D Trials. This assignment will be unlike anything I have tried before and the thought of being able make a very basic game is very interesting to me Notebook Source:  Flickr One of the extra-credits options which instantly grabbed my attention was the fact that I could gain extra credit by simply commenting on my classmates blogs. I believe that this is a great way to gain more credit and also increase social interaction between students. This is especially important given the fact that students weren't able to have any social gatherings during the first year of the course.
